[VBD] Why VBD now?
Hi! Just a heads-up that our self-paced workshop is available for 40% off for only a little while longer. Our limited sale ends this Friday, November 22nd, at 5p CST. Don’t sleep!
In the meantime, we’ll talk about what happens when people don’t practice value-based design. Because that’s the norm, right?
But look where that got us.
Design is in crisis
Designers are being laid off en masse in a broader power grab amidst a major economic downturn. In fact, layoffs.fyi shows over 535,000 people laid off since the beginning of 2022. The vast majority of those roles are in graphic design, user experience, and product management.
Our field became commoditized as buyers misunderstood the process & impact of our work. Incompetent people in power think they can practice some form of unresearched “design,” and then they make machines do it for them. The machines, shockingly, are not creative or innovative, which reduces the quality of output.
Fortunately, there is a better way, and that is to restore design to its original purpose – which fundamentally can’t be automated, because it involves generating new ideas and working with real humans.
If you don’t practice value-based design, many common issues emerge. They look familiar because we’ve been dealing with these for the past quarter-century:
- Disempowerment when determining future strategic direction.
- Contention in critiques or follow-through.
- Blind stakeholders changing plans at the last minute.
Getting mad, alas, won’t help. Telling people you matter won’t change anything, either.
So what will?
The rule is this: if you keep doing the thing you do, you’ll get the same outcome. Change what you do and you’ll get something different.
And so we’re here to change what you do.
Discounted enrollment in our self-paced workshop ends this Friday, November 22, at 5p CST. You’ll get unlimited lifetime access to the workshop, and a year of access to our paid lessons for free (a $300 value) – for 40% off.
See you inside.
