First, you search the web like a normal person and find that it has become very bad. Ads. Misleading things. Slop. You try again, more precisely: also bad. You feel helpless. The front end to the web became search for 25 years or so. Back in the day you would just type a URL in, or you would use a directory and use that. Webrings. Things of that nature. The whole thing got subsumed into a text box and as few words as possible and now what comes out the other end of the text box is bad. You are unused to the internet – and let’s be clear, the other end of the text box very much is the internet for most people – being bad. It is supposed to give. What gives?
