Thank you for sponsoring our newsletter this week!
Over the past few weeks, I’ve been planning a new 2-day workshop that will teach you how to practice value-based design hands-on.
And in talking with several of you, I’ve come to realize that the ultimate challenge is in process. We spend a lot of time talking about the specific things someone should do in our paid community, but fitting them into your existing daily routine is another question entirely.
I can look at someone’s routine and tell them how to change it to best incorporate value-based design work over the long term. But the problem is that I have no idea what your routine looks like. Everyone’s routines are different, just as all businesses are different, all teams are different.
As a result, the workshop is going to focus not only on what you should do, but also how, specifically, you should be doing it. It will involve significant 1-on-1 work to incorporate value-based design into your existing routine, so that you can start generating outsize profit, no matter your role or business.
This round will be focused exclusively on consultants & agency workers who want to bring our method into their practices. Future workshops will focus on store owners and in-house practitioners. And, per usual, our fees will never be this low again.
We’re calling it Draft Plan, and enrollment is open.
This week, for paid members
- This week’s paid lesson focuses on shorter, nimbler interview sprints. Normally at Draft, our rounds of interviews involve a half-dozen participants over six weeks. We’ve begun trying something new for a client of ours where we interview 2 or 3 participants every month, writing up some quick action items for us. When does this make sense to do, and what should you watch out for?
- This week’s design discusses a carousel that breaks some important design rules. Does it work? You can probably guess.
- Upon a Texan’s request, we did a teardown for their beloved local grocery store chain H-E-B. More on H-E-B’s disaster operations..

Links & analysis
- A deep dive into whether “cancel” should be a button or a link. Gosh, should it exist at all?
- More custom UI fun: when to implement custom scrollbars. The answer is “rarely” for DTC, but if you have a theme that supports it, it can be helpful for some mobile controls.
- A free course on how to create humane technology.
This week’s paid lesson: When should you run fast interview sprints?
